Social Studies: Immigration Project 3

Unfortunately, there were quite a few students who did not come prepared with their research today and will have to complete their projects at home. If you are one of those unprepared students, or if you just need to finish at home, the instructions for the project can be found on the Immigration PPT link under Social Studies Links. The instructions are on the last two slides.

If you are one of the several students who came unprepared, remember you need to also complete the alternate assignment which was given to you today.

ALTERNATE ASSIGNMENT: Read pages 416-435 and answer the questions for each section (pg. 421 1-5; pg. 427 1-5; pg. 435 1-5; and pg. 436 1-5).

Projects and alternate assignments are due on Monday, May 2.

Milk Jug Castle

The milk jug castle has been an absolute blast to watch this year! Thank you to all of the students who went the extra mile to bring in bricks. Each brick represents one thing that a student learned about a unit. I have not counted the total number of bricks, but there are hundreds!

Since we are finished with the castle, we don't really need any more bricks brought to class. If you still have a few that you want included, we can probably find a place for them in the back.

Social Studies: Immigration Project 2

Remember, your research must be brought to class on Thursday, April 28. That is only two days away! Make sure you come prepared with your research notes and your pictures. We will be putting the projects together in class, so don't worry about paper plates, etc. Everything you need for the project will be provided for you--except your research. . . I don't know your great great grandpa Fred.

Social Studies: Revolutionary Theatre 3

The plays turned out awesome! Great job everyone! Many of you have been asking for extra vocabulary assignments or cover sheets. Please try to keep track of them throughout the unit. We always make our unit notebooks on the first day of the unit. The notebooks are the most important assignment we do for each unit because we use them for so many things. Use your best responsibility skills to keep track of them. If you did lose something click on the links below.

LA: I am the Cheese

I am the Cheese is a great book about a boy, Adam, and his journey on a bicycle to search for his father (a modern Odyssey). The plot is twisted and complicated, but along the way you will get better at deciphering what is going on. One of the major themes in the book has to do with Adam's search for identity. As part of this novel, you will be required to create a scrapbook that investigates your own identity. You will also need to create a soundtrack for the novel. Both of these projects are extremely fun. The instructions for both can be found in the Language Arts links section of the blog.

A word on the projects:

1. I am asking you to think about your own identities as we read this book, thus the scrapbooks. However, you should remember that your peers, as well as I, will have a chance to look over your scrapbook. I am not asking you to divulge any information/pictures that you deem too private to share. If you don't want anyone to know about it, don't include it in your scrapbook.

2. Make sure everything, especially music lyrics, passes the mother/judge/priest test.

3. If you don't feel like you can do a scrapbook about yourself for privacy reasons, you may create a scrapbook for one of the main characters instead.

4. Make copies of irreplaceables. Please do not bring something into the classroom that can never be replaced. You never know what might happen to things in a 7th grader's world.

Social Studies: Revolutionary Theatre 2

I hope everyone has a great Spring Break. Remember that after the break you will have Monday to get the rest of your play ready to go. Tuesday we will start the performances. While you are out of school, make sure you complete anything your group decided to do. Don't let your team down. Have a great time!
