Social Studies: Decades Report

We are nearing the end of the school year and that means we are about to start our final assignment for 6th grade social studies! We started the year with a huge project in the country reports. We end the year with a huge project in the decades report. Bookends. Nice.

Here are the details:
-Groups of 4 (or less in some classes)
-Each group is assigned 1 decade from the 20th century
-Members of each group are assigned a role
-Each member is responsible for their own research foldable (see picture). Group members who fail to turn in their foldables will not get the group score.
-Foldables have five topics (one for each research day): Successes, Challenges, Leaders, Life, Culture
-Each group will present their research to the class.

Presentations:
Each presentation must include: large poster (created in class), activity from your decade.

A note on activities: The activities can be extremely fun this time of year, but they must have a purpose that helps us learn something about your decade. For example, if the NBA was started in your decade, a free-throw competition could be fun and would relate to the history of the decade. But if your only reason for shooting hoops is because "Uh, kids played basketball sometimes during the 1980's" that shows very little thought and is pretty lame reasoning. You guys are all much smarter than that.

Activities we have seen in the past: games, sports, dances, collections, famous foods, worksheets, scavenger hunts, quiz shows. Be creative and have fun.

Missing Assignments: To participate in the activities you will need to have all of your assignments turned in for this class. If you do not, you will be working on what you haven't turned in instead of participating in the activities. So make sure you are getting caught up.

Remember: Any treat should be cheap, and prepackaged.
